Schedule

GERMAN BIOGAS TRAINING DAY (GBTD)

The German company Snow Leopard Projects, the Nairobi based Strathmore University, KIRDI & Sequa GmbH are setting up a biogas training and information centre at the Strathmore University as well as biogas lab capacity at KIRDI to educate AD-plant operators and biogas laboratory staff in the long run. The project partners, together with the German Biogas Association (FvB), will conduct specialised technical trainings for operating staff of biogas plants in Africa and advanced students that are aiming at a career in biogas.

BIOGAS BASICS

Opening remarks, introduction of the Strathmore University, KIRDI and Snow Leopard cooperation project

Overview on biogas systems; basics on feedstock and gas yields, types of Biogas plants, components and machines, energy and fertilizer production

Coffee Break

Section about commissioning process / plant operation, feedstock handling, lab analysis of substrates, operation parameters, troubleshooting

SAFETY AND QUALITY CRITERIA IN BIOGAS DEVELOPMENT

Safety aspects in biogas plants, reliable and stable system operation, explosion and fire protection, risk assessment and mitigation, healthy operation

Coffee Break

Workshop: Practical session on the calculation and rough dimensioning of a biogas plant. The trainer will guide the attendees on creating a biogas dimensioning model from scratch. In the process substrates will be introduced and can be varied by quantity and quality, biogas yields and methane content will be added and energy production will be calculated. The result will be a biogas dimensioning model from substrates to energy production
